INGREDIENTS
- 1 loaf French bread, cut in half lengthwise, then into thirds
- 1 ½ cups canned tomato sauce or pizza sauce
- Basil, fresh or dried
- 3 large Roma tomatoes, sliced
- 16 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat oven to 475°F.
- Lightly toast the bread for 5 minutes.
- Spoon the tomato sauce over the bread. (Use lots of sauce! It gets absorbed quickly.) Top with the basil, then tomato slices, then the cheese.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, checking frequently.
